FAQs
Frequently asked questions to answer everything you need to know to make the most of your Island Alive experience on Kangaroo Island.
Is my sauna time shared with members of the public?
No, when you book you get exclusive access to the sauna and the outside shower for contrast therapy. There is a shared bathroom but rarely will anyone else be around during sauna sessions.
Is the sauna wood-fired or electric?
The sauna is electric (not infrared) and will be hot and ready to go when you arrive. When you leave we ask you turn the top power button (orange light) to zero to turn it off. It is on a timer and will eventually turn itself off though.
How hot does the sauna get?
The sauna reaches 80-90°C and it is a dry heat until you ladle water over the hot rocks. This creates steam and increases the intensity of the heat instantly. Open the door if you want to cool the sauna down, step outside for a few minutes or take a cold shower for an instant revitalisation.
What is the suggested protocol for contrast therapy?
We recommend the following contrast therapy protocol:
10-15 minutes in the sauna at 80-90°C
2-3 minutes in the cold plunge (or 1 minute under the cold shower - to conserve water)
Rotate 3 times
